In a July 2003 report, the Institute for Sustainable Management of the Technical College Aargau (CH) published the results of a comparative study of the corporate sustainability reporting of 76 larger Swiss companies. The institute analysed the content of several sources for each company: annual reports, environmental and social reports, sustainability reports and websites.
ABB ranked first on the list, followed by Novartis and two non quoted companies (the biggest Swiss food retailer Migros and the Swiss federal railway company). Among the companies with the worst ratings were the insurance company Rentenanstalt/ Swiss Life and the chocolate manufacturer Lindt & Spruengli.
