Confederation of Norwegian Business and Industry (NHO) argues Norwegian government proposals for corporate green reporting requirements

The Norwegian government has proposed changes in the law for corporate green reporting  requirements.
The Confederation of Norwegian Business and Industry (NHO) argues this because the proposed legislation could force companies to devote more than half of their annual directors’ reports to environmental data, a situation it describes as "strange".   NHO argues that many of the data required, such as details of work-related accidents and injuries, properly belong elsewhere in annual reports, which average 50-60 pages for a  large industrial company such as Norsk Hydro, and not in the 5-8-page directors’ report and accounts.   Internationally there is a trend for separate environmental reports or more detailed environmental reporting in the annual reports. The Norwegian Accounting Standards Board supports the NHO vision for these alternatives.  The situation will be discussed with the finance and environment ministries.
