Novo Nordisk won the award best Sustainability Report 2003 – given by FSR (The Danish Association of Chartered Accountants) and the Danish financial newspaper Børsen. As a national winner, Novo Nordisk is now also an entrant for the European Sustainability Award, which will take place in the spring of 2004.
Award, which will take place in the spring of 2004.

Novo Nordisk was singled out as the winner last year for its open reporting style and the seven strategic dilemmas, identified as material by the companys key stakeholders. The same can be said about this years report, said the judging committee in its motivation.

The committee further emphasised the third bottom line economic sustainability which analyses the companys impact on the creation of economic wealth and on the stakeholders that benefit from its activities. Novo Nordisk presents indicators for economic sustainability at a level which makes the company a global trendsetter in this area, said Carsten Høj Han-sen on behalf of the committee upon presenting the award.

In her acceptance speech, Susanne Stormer, Manager, Stakeholder Relations in Novo Nord-isk, said: Having been among the very first reporters offers us a valuable advantage. We now have the experience, and also a particular obligation to be an inspiration for others, who like us see it as a necessity to address the multitude of demands, which are oftentimes not reconcilable, made by actors in society. To demonstrate that there is a business case, that it pays to listen and learn. And that an understanding for the Triple Bottom Line can lead the way to new business models, new business opportunities and help create an innovative envi-ronment that can drive sustainable business development.

This year, the award ceremony took place at the Danish Design Center in central Copenha-gen. The judging committee represents business, NGOs and institutes of higher education.
It is the 9th year of celebrating non-financial reports. The award for best environmental report was given to Aalborg Portland, who will join Novo Nordisk in the next round in the European Award Scheme.
